Reconstitute your old Gelatin Plate with Linda Germain - the video!

I put together a short video on how to refresh your old soggy gelatin.  After doing the video I realized that the gelatin does not need to be blended.  It is enough to just cut it up into 1 inch pieces.  It is quicker and less mess.  I also found that to add a couple tablespoons of new disolved gelatin to the old stuff helps make the gelatin firmer.  Enjoy the music a Blues tune by John Lee Hooker that I got from the audio swap feature on You Tube.

Art in New England - what comes up

So I had this idea to do some google searches to see what comes up.  This is what I found Art in New England leads me to New England Art Exchange in Keene NH. They are an Art gallery selling period paintings and Fine Prints encompassing the works of American, European and Asian Artists. We specialize in works from the 18th century up to the 1950’s. ARrt New England the Magzine very cool that is it online.  I forget and try to get a copy at the library and they are always gone. Then I found a list of Artist Retreats in New England.  Hmmm - I have been thinking about retreats!  Then my computer wanted to sleep - more tommorrow or the next day. Enjoy!

New "secrets" at the Altered Page

This week posted several great secrets about techniques at the altered page.  This is a series of posts that Seth Apter is putting together.  He put out a call to artists everywhere to respond to a series of questions about "favorites"  Stay tuned in.  Great stuff to follow.

Gelatin Prints on Fabric

I got a Quilting Arts Magazine from the Library and was attracted to the brightl;y colored design on the front.  It was a Gelatin Print on fabric that had been richly quilted and awarded great prizes. I have tried to print on fabric with my inks and some screen printing fabric ink but I have not ended up with such wonderful colors. Today I tried again with my inks and some moldy gelatin and the results were ok.  I experiemented with dampening the fabric.  Oh the fabric was just an old sheet. I tried using acryic paint too.  I think I will look for some proper fabric inks or dyes.
I came across an interesting artist's residency - Philiadelphia Art Hotel  Resident artists will receive a private live / work studio with an adjoining bathroom during their stay at PAH. In addition, we have a fully functioning kitchenette & lounge that is shared among artists. The Philadelphia Art Hotel occupies a rowhouse in the urban neighborhood of East Kensington, very close to Center City Philadelphia as well as many wonderful local spots. Public transportation is within a couple blocks of PAH (subway and bus lines) while many amenities are within walking distance.  It does not cost anything to stay there is an application fee  and some other deatils. Check it out if you are interested.  I was think about creating an in-house residency for myself for the next couple of months. What is a residency but time and space to complete a project?  I am sure it is more too, support from other artists, exhibit opportunities, a great line for your resume, time away from home, a new place to be. I was thinking that I have time and space - I just need a plan/project and a commitment. I might try a two/three day project first.  I am just thinking this out. Enjoy!  http://www.linda-germain.com/

Merry Christmas to All

I hope everyone has a great day with family, and friends.  Relax and be present to the abundance that surrounds us.

Goals and the New Year

I am thinking about residences and grants and art communities. Women's Studio Workshop has lots of opportunities. And for the last two years I have missed the deadlines,  so now is the time to begin the application process. Mira's List is a great source of information about grants and things.  So I just could pick one opportunity and seek it out.

A walk for Peace of Mind

Today I have long list of things that I should do.  I started with breakfast, morning pages, shower and such.  Then I went out for a walk.  I was so grateful that I did it.  With in the first few steps I knew it was a gift to myself. It was a gentle kindness.  I said,  I have to remember this feeling when I am reluctant to go out for my next walk.  I get ideas, hopes, dreams, possibilties when I gently walk.  Then I did Christmas cards and had to say Enough.  I am hopeful for this new year.  Enjoy today.

The Pulse and Secrets!

Check out the great information that is being shared each sunday at the altered page.
Seth Apter is organizing  information, techniques and secrets share by over 200 artist in a project he calls the Pulse. Enjoy! http://www.linda-germain.com/

Provincetown Print - white line color woodblock print

Today I did a bit of research on the white line color woodblock print, also know as the Provincetown Print. I was prompted to do this research because there is a class being offered at the NHIA in the spring.  The article in the link above has a great set of instructions.  I think I will give it a try. Enjoy! http://www.linda-germain.com/

Joy - Peace and Stacks of gelatin

I have been thinking about creating joy and peace and how I often create stife and struggle.  Hmm?  The choices I make.  Well I will have another chance to choose peace and joy in just a second.  Today somehow I "lost" the only key to my car somewhere between the ignition and the front door of my house. I did find it between the seat and the console.  But now I know what I want for Christmas.  A key to my car - simple. I have 2 stacks of gelatin in my refrigerator - one very old and ready for the trash can and one fairly new. What to print?  Or do I just begin and see where it goes. http://www.linda-germain.com/

Making Progress

Today I had most of the day to myself in the studio.  I made progress on this simple quilt that I am putting together from old shirts.  I figured out how to print on to my Christmas cards and I participated in an online art exchange.  Now I am off to a Christmas party - lots of food and people and fun.

Holiday art exchange with my Mixed Media friends

Today the holiday parties begin.  I am gathering with some mixed media friends to trade art supplies and eat good food.  I walked around my messy studio looking for unwanted art supplies and I was amazed at how reluctant I am to give away stuff that has potential.  I did loosen up and was able to find a box of stuff that I can part with.

Ellen Hardy shows work at Open Studios

A friend, Ellen Hardy will be part of the open studios in Salem MA this weekend.  For more information check out her interview with the Art Throb

It's Cold outside!!!

Today I was making Christmas things at the farm.  Cold!!!! in the Barn.  Tonight I am looking forward to meeting with my artist's group.   I embelished a box - with prints and collage bits.  That was our shared assignment for the group.  Since I did not really have a box that I wanted to work on, I used the small box that a deck of card comes in.  I figure I can put some ATC's in it. Enjoy!

Sunday Searching for Art Ideas

Sometimes I like to browse around the internet and what a wild path I take.  Follow may path today.
Today I played with a quilt and was not happy with any of the designs that I came up with.  I am also decorating a box for my artist group meeting tomorrow.

Making Gelatin Prints with some Friends tonight!

Yesterday I made some fresh gelatin and tonight I have a couple of friends coming to the studio to play with printmaking.  I cranked up the heat to 65 degrees. I have the country western music on but I think I will have to switch to Christmas Music.  Enjoy!
